rinsey lane right

Rinsey Lane Right, Cornwall, Oil on board, 2018. 53 x 75cm, SOLD.

This is on the other side of the wall in Rinsey Lane, South Cornwall, near Marazion. You’ll see the tree in both paintings.

I was out for a long morning walk in July, and happened to peek in this field, which had just been mowed. It was brilliant green - almost luminous - thanks to the low level of the sun.

Rinsey is in the wilder, south-western part of Cornwall: One of those places where the wind sculpts the landscape. Ancient-looking dry stone walls line the lanes around the cliffs, which - at that time of year - are teeming with life and scented flowers. I tried to capture that in this piece; the vivid sense that nature is growing whilst you stand there, admiring it. It’s how I approach all my landscape paintings; I want them to have movement in them.
