MARSHLANDS

Marshlands, Suffolk, Oil on canvas board, 2020. 19 x 24cm, £125.

This is actually from an imagined landscape, it could be Suffolk, from a memory; I’ve spent a lot of time there. It’s part of a series of three of sky and water, each with a different mood. In this one, there’s supposed to an old industrial building or two just out of view, at the edges - surrounded by marshland; those reeds in the foreground. It is intentionally abstract. Nature is always creeping into our man-made spaces: It stages an intervention if they are left untouched for too long. I wanted a sense of that in this small piece.
